Textile Hub

City Twinning : Coimbatore, India – Esslingen, Germany

Esslingen Coimbatore Association (Esscom) is found under the Societies Act, 1975 to facilitate the twinning between both the cities and was found in Nov 2008.

Coimbatore – a famed city for textiles- is the origin of many large scale textile mills with dedicated research institutes like Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR), South Indian Textiles Research Association (SITRA) and the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management and 2 Centers Of Excellence (COE). While the highest concentration of textile activities happen across the world, Coimbatore produces skilled weavers who excel in the art of dyeing and weaving.

There is a huge market for export of durable, high quality, color-fast fabrics incorporated with intricate patterns.  The South Indian Mills Association (SIMA), established in 1933 is very active in governing the textile industry and reserving the interests of textile mills.
