City Twinning : Coimbatore, India – Esslingen, Germany
Esslingen Coimbatore Association (Esscom) is found under the Societies Act, 1975 to facilitate the twinning between both the cities and was found in Nov 2008.
People have played an integral part in the development of Coimbatore as a fast-growing city. Coimbatoreans believe in community upliftment and philanthropy and, time and again, join hands for underprivileged children, women and the physically and mentally challenged. Community sharing is strong and active social cause events are many. At any given day, blood donation camps, literacy awareness camps, fund raising camps, women empowerment sessions, assistance towards the socially backward and awareness drives against harassments are organized with active participants.
Siruthuli is an organization that addresses water and waste management through large scale initiatives and programs to create awareness, educate and provide solutions to tackle water scarcity issues and waste management. RAAC (Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore) is another initiative that works diligently towards a cleaner and greener Coimbatore. Non-Government Organizations and Clubs like Yuva Parivarthan, NERD SOCIETY, Rotary & Rotaract, Lions and Round Table organize multiple camps and awareness programs with special focus on Education, Cancer care, AIDS, and other prevalent issue that affect the society.
