City Twinning : Coimbatore, India – Esslingen, Germany

Esslingen Coimbatore Association (Esscom) is found under the Societies Act, 1975 to facilitate the twinning between both the cities and was found in Nov 2008.


Coimbatore is a religiously tolerant city where its people live in harmony and celebrate all religions and festivals with equal fervor.

Renowned temples such as the Perur Patteeswara Temple, Marudamalai Temple, and Eachanari Vinayagar Temple kindle devotion. Prayers offered throughout the day fill hearts with praise and worship for God. Athar Jamad Masjid Mosque is well known for its loyal followers and brotherhood. Standing tall at the heart of a commercial hub, its green walls encompass peace amidst the cacophony of the milling crowds outside. Dargas are open for all and the queue of people on Fridays portrays reverence and faith towards the Almighty. All Souls’ church is one of the oldest churches and St. Antony’s Church has dedicated followers conducting masses and services regularly and preaching the Word of God. Prayer sessions & sermons inside and outside churches, outreach programs is common during weekends.

Among them stands the city’s Jain Temple and Gurudwaras which reflect purity and chastity through its pristine white marble exuding a classic aura and serene and spiritual ambience.

These religious communities exhibit the harmonious and tolerant coexistence of Coimbatoreans embracing each other’s cultural, economic and spiritual beliefs contributing towards healthy growth and brotherhood.
