City Twinning : Coimbatore, India – Esslingen, Germany
Esslingen Coimbatore Association (Esscom) is found under the Societies Act, 1975 to facilitate the twinning between both the cities and was found in Nov 2008.
Coimbatore region covers 642.12 km2 and falls between 11° 1′ 6″ N, 76° 58′ 21″ E. Bordered by the Western Ghats mountain range, Nilgiris reserved forests, Noyyal river and the Siruvani waterfalls (considered to be the 2nd sweetest of all waters, after River Nile), Coimbatore has a population of 1,050,721 (census 2011). Women in Coimbatore are well educated and empowered. One can see their active involvement in quotidian activities as well as in businesses.
