Esslingen Coimbatore Association (Esscom) is found under the Societies Act, 1975 to facilitate the twinning between both the cities and was found in Nov 2008.
Coimbatore, the textile capital of South India is rightly called as the ‘Manchester of South India’ and ‘Pump City’. It is the second largest city of Tamilnadu and 16th largest urban agglomeration in India. Though Coimbatore is popular for its traditional Kongu Tamil dialect, it reflects the multi-cultural ethos of people, trends, lifestyles and enterprises.
Being an emerging metropolis, chronicles of Coimbatore include ‘Best Emerging City’ in India, 2014 by India Today and ‘Skoch Best Corporation’ Award, 2016. Coimbatore was also ranked 4th among ‘Indian Cities in Investment Climate’ by The Confederation of Indian Industries and 17th among ‘The Top Global Outsourcing Cities’ by Tholons. Evolving from a lesser known region, Coimbatore was qualified for Smart Cities Mission among other ninety-nine cities of India.
Coimbatore, today, is the Enterprises’ Hub for ambitious entrepreneurs, and the city is one of the largest exporter merchandising jewellery, fabrics, yarn, wet grinders, poultry and auto components recognized as Geographical Indications (GI) by the Govt. of India.
Coimbatore is linked to major cities of South India. Chennai is 490 kms away; a 190-km journey will take you to Mysore and 330 kms journey to Bangalore. Tourism destination, Kerala is just 25 kms away from the border of Coimbatore.
